About

The Author

Hi, i’m Alan Edwardes, a 16 year old student from Retford, England. I enjoy everything to do with technology, and i’m a complete windows geek. (Can you tell?) I am quite obsessively interested in tech news, so Engadget is the place where I usually hang out. I can never get the design of this place right, I make a theme that I think is brilliant at first, then find after a few weeks that i’m totally bored of it and start modifying it. I’m a total valid XHTML whore, and i’m probably one of the biggest visitors to the W3C Markup Validation website.

The Website

This is my website, the place where I vent most of my interesting thoughts to the users of the ‘net, just another WordPress blog. I made my first post on my blog back in June 2006, when my blog was hosted on this weird free hosting website called Dajoob, which since has ceased from hosting sites by the looks of it. I then moved on to my ISP’s web hosting package. This was great, but I didn’t really get the feel of a professional website owner, and we were planning to move from the ISP right after the contract ended so I needed to find a new host. I’ve forgotten how I found the site, but a guy called Matt Brett had his site hosted at A Small Orange Software, so I decided to check them out. The site you see around you is currently hosted with ASO, and has been since January 2007.

My posts often contain my opinions about things web-related, and things that I’ve made. I have an ever growing “Having a Rant” category, which contains my shouty and sweary approach to things that annoy me. I apologise in advance if this offends anyone, but I feel it is necessary to appropriately forward my point.

I decided to start a blog because of an “everybody else has one” kind of thing, and I can truthfully say I fully enjoy blogging. I try to write as many posts as I can, but some months I end up writing about 4 posts, which makes this place seem very static at times.

The design you see around you is made entirely by me. I hate using other people’s themes as you don’t get the satisfied feeling that you have created your blog. WordPress is a great platform, and I don’t see myself switching from it in the foreseeable future.

My blog has only just recently escaped the first name I gave it, which was Alan Unleashed. This was a creepy name that I first used for some small Frontpage/HTML/crappy JavaScript based sites that I created when I first found out about- well, the world of the web. I’m not sure what possessed me to carry on using the name on my blog, but at least I made the decision to change it.

My entire blog is released under the Creative Commons attribution no commercial share-alike license. (Commercial uses of my work is a no-no, but if you do use and adapt my work you will have to CLEARLY tell people it’s mine, and release the source of your work publicly.) If you would like to get in touch with me for any reason at all you can, I don’t bite. The contact form is on the contact page.
